A 10-inch screen, a real disc player, FM radio and Bluetooth streaming, built into one carry-anywhere box. Plug in a streaming stick, drop in a DVD, or set it on the picnic table — movie night no longer needs the living room.
The HDMI input on the top panel takes a streaming stick or adapter — Fire TV, Roku, Chromecast or Apple TV. Power it from the USB port beside it, connect it to Wi-Fi, and the 10-inch screen turns into a small television wherever you are.
Game consoles connect the same way, so a round of Switch, PlayStation or Xbox plays on the screen instead of the main TV.
The disc tray opens from the top panel, so loading a movie takes seconds and the disc stays clear of the speakers. It plays DVD, CD and MP3 discs, plus burned DVD-R/RW.
Playback speed steps through x2, x4, x8 and x20 in either direction, and a full set of buttons sits next to the tray for source, volume and track selection.
Pull out the antenna and tune with the side knob across FM 88–108 MHz. Handy for local news, a ball game, or a station that never made it online.
Two speakers sit either side of the screen, so radio and music fill a room without anything else switched on.
Power, source switching between DVD, USB and HDMI, volume, disc menus, subtitle and angle selection, zoom and slow motion — all on the included remote, with batteries in the box.
The number pad jumps straight to a track or chapter, which beats paging through menus with the buttons on the unit.
Composite video out and stereo RCA audio out let you send the picture to a bigger TV — the box becomes the player and the living room screen becomes the display.
A 3.5 mm AUX input on the back takes wired players, and the DC jack takes the included adapter.
Plug in the included adapter at home, or load eight D-cell batteries in the bottom compartment and take it to the yard, the campsite or the tailgate.
No wall outlet, no extension cord, no sitting near a socket to keep watching.
Set it on the picnic table, pull the antenna and put the match on the 10-inch screen while the grill heats up. The blue finish shown here is the second colourway.
Two colour options — classic black or cobalt blue — and a handle on top for carrying it in one hand.
A boombox first, a screen second — two speakers flank the display.
